Come Josephine in my flying machine
... but then I'll have to clean the seats.I found out one thing, the auto-focus on my Digital Rebel sucks when trying to take pictures of an airshow. I finally had to give up on it and shoot on manual focus (heaven forbid! That's like going back to the photographic stone ages, next I'll be shooting with a pinhole camera (Actually I have a pinhole camera)). Some of these are a bit soft, but I still like them.

Something I do like about the camera is that with the sports setting, the camera adjusts the ASA/ISO to keep you at a fast shutter speed. The camera was working overtime on this because I was shooting thru a polarizer (which I was trying to adjust while manual focusing, that was fun).
Anyhoo, as you can see by the ad's prominently displayed on them, this is the Aeroshell acrobatic team. They fly old AT-6's which were WW2 trainer aircraft.
Essentially instead of doing fancy flips and out of control spins, they do large lazy loops and turns in unison, just feet away from each other. Not to take away from the difficulty of this, (or the outright dangerousness of this), but in MHO its the airshow equivalent of synchronized swimming.

Great shots!
Fabulous photography, but slightly disturbing - in a good way. Like the fear you enjoy whilst watching a horror movie.
How do you capture that?
Wow. I'm speechless, I like the photos very much. GREAT =)
Who died this year? Somebody always dies at the fly-in.
Wow, wonderful! I like the configuration! Great shot!
Seesaw, Jazzy, Tanty... Thank you!
Minge... You want scary? wait until I post the picture Brian wants me to!
Brian... your a morbid cur aren't you? :) Actually there were 3 deaths this year at the EAA show. 2 people died on approach to the airport, and in a really horrific accident, a WW2 Avenger cut into the back of a smaller airplane taxing in front of it.
Wow, those are great shots! I'm amazed that you did so well with manual focus. I would not be fast enough.
WOW! These shots are unbelievable!
I was just reading the August issue of Digital Camera UK and there were tips on how to capture action shots. Looks like you don't any (tips, that is)!
Post it!
Natlie... what you don't see are all of the out of focus ones that I didn't post!
Edwin... The setting does good on its own, most of the work is anticipation. Ok, its mostly luck.
Minge... as you wish...
Thanks all for the kind words!
Wow, you did so well on these fast moving planes. So clear, colourful and well framed. Have you cropped them or altered them in any way?
I cropped the top one and the bottom one to put the planes on the edge of the frame more, but I really didnt zoom in much. It was a 300 lens, I think the camera kept the shutter speed around 2000th of a second. Thanks!
